Leuprolide acetate is a synthetic analog of naturally occurring gonadotropin releasing hormone (GnRH). Leuprolide overstimulates the body’s own production of certain hormones, which causes that production to shut down temporarily. It is used to prevent premature ovulation in IVF treatment cycle.
You doctor or nurse will tell you how much and how long to use Leuprolide acetate.
Do not use Leuprolide if you have
- Hypersensitivity to GnRH, GnRH agonist analogs or any excipients in Leuprolide
- Undiagnosed vaginal bleeding
- It is contraindicated in women who are pregnant. Leuprolide has been assigned to pregnancy category X by the FDA. Animal studies have revealed evidence an increase in major fetal abnormalities, increased fetal mortality, an decreased fetal weights. There are no controlled data in human pregnancy.
